MINISTRY MANUAL

MISSION STATEMENT

The ARK Student Ministries exists to provide students on the Outer Banks a place to experience God, grow through discipleship and have fun while fulfilling God’s purpose for them.

THREE ASPECTS OF OUR MISSION

ARK Student Ministries desires our students to be F.E.D.

Fun               Because teenagers have a need to socialize, we will
provide safe, fun Christian activities, and events.

Experience     We will provide two main types of experiences.  First
and most important, is an encounter with God that
changes, shapes, and directs their lives.  Second, we
will provide different ministry opportunities so they
can experience the joy of serving God.

Discipleship   Developing the student through instruction and
training, they will be able to accomplish God's
purpose for their lives.  They will have the skills and
knowledge to grow in their relationship with God,
defend their faith, and move toward God's plan for
                    their lives.

FIVE BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES INVOLVED IN OUR MISSION

1.      Worship – Exalting Jesus Christ.
The ARK Student Ministries worship will be exciting and powerful, but most importantly it will be an opportunity for them to commune with God.  Our worship will provide an atmosphere that allows intimacy with God.

2.      Discipleship – Educate Christians toward spiritual maturity.
Discipleship is the development of our relationship with God.  As we grow in the knowledge of God and His ways, we can become more like Him.

3.      Ministry – Equipping Christians for ministry.
As believers we are called to a lifestyle of Christian service, regardless of our vocation.  We practice this truth by encouraging every student to find a place of ministry.

4.      Evangelism – Evangelizing the world for Christ.
Evangelism is the effort to reach the lost in our communities. This is done by both strategic events and the lives we live before the lost.  Although we will provide evangelistic events, our students are to use their lives to reach their friends for Christ.

5.      Fellowship – Encouraging other Christians
Fellowship is the activities or events that build relationships.  Fellowship will encourage and guide us in Christ, move us closer to God and bond us to others.

Core Values

1.      SERVANTHOOD

Following Jesus’ example, we will serve others and not seek to be served.  (John 12:26; Matthew 20:26-28; Mark 10:43-44)

2.      WISDOM

Carrying the wisdom of God in our heart, we will defend our beliefs before some and share our faith with others.  (2 Peter 3:18; 2 Peter 3:15)

3.      RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships allow us the opportunity to impact the lives of others and we will go to heroic lengths to show Christ’s love.

4.      EXPERIENCE

A moment in God’s presence changes lives forever, so we will pursuer God.

5.      MINISTRY

Ministry is a requirement from God, so we seek opportunities to minister.

6.      EXCELLENCE

We do all in quality and excellence because we represent God in what we do.

Ministries

1.      The Lost

Because The Lost do not have a relationship with Christ, we are targeting them for salvation.  Our events will both reveal Christ to them and introduce The ARK Student Ministries.  We hope this is the beginning of a relationship that will grow.

a.      Outreach Events

Outreach Events have a wide draw to the community and allows contact with them.  These events will begin a relationship with The Lost and introduce our student’s friends to the ARK.  These events will be fun in nature, but also be positive and safe.  Examples of these events are concerts, skating, all-nighters…

b.      Friendship Evangelism Challenge

This tool will be used to reach the friends of our students.  It gives the student steps to follow so they can become a witness for Christ.  It moves them out of their comfort zones in order to share their faith with others.

2.      The Found

The Found are students who regularly attend our events, activities and worship services.  These ministries build our relationship with students, allow their relationship with Christ to grow and aid them in their spiritual growth.

a.      Department of Prayer and Protection (D.P.P.)

The D.P.P. is the place every parent, grandparent and concerned church member can get involved in student ministry.  Our students face an ever increasing amount of trials and trouble from this world because of their commitment to Christ.  Through prayer we cover them, protect them, bind the enemy and open doors of ministry for the student.

b.      Wednesday Night Service

Wednesday Night  Services are fun and exciting, while giving the student an encounter with God.

Welcome Center

The Welcome Center provides event and activity information and keeps a record of the students who attend.  It also gives and receives both permission slips and event, activity, or ministry applications.

Ice Breakers

This game, drama, or activity provides a time of fun and enjoyment before the service.

Worship

Our worship is a place of intimacy with God.  Not only is it exciting, but also allows us a time of communion with God.

Preaching

Preaching is for instruction, correction, doctrine, and training in righteousness from the Word of God.  The Student pastor will be preaching once a month in a combined service, and the other weeks we will have leaders preaching to separate High School and Middle School groups.  The goals of our preaching are to entice, excite, evangelize, educate, equip and encourage. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Order of Service

6:30 - 7:00 – Pre-Service Activities

7:00 – 7:10 – Ice Breakers

7:10 – 7:20 – Opening, Prayer and Announcements

7:20 – 7:45 – Praise and Worship

7:45 – 8:15 – High School Class

c.       Student Activities

Student Activities are local and regional activities designed for students to fellowship and leaders to build their relationship with our students.

d.      Assimilation Team

3.      The Redeemed

The Redeemed seek and desire to understand scripture, grow in their knowledge of God, and know their beliefs with both their hearts and minds.  They are seeking and developing the skill to grow in the Lord without needing to be pampered or babied along the way.

a.      Student Friendship Groups

While providing fellowship, spiritual growth and a maturing in the faith, Student Friendship Groups will develop bonds of love and commitment.   Student Friendship Groups are the place that students receive the most personal attention and care.  This ministry will be both relational and evangelistic in nature, and we desire to see these groups multiply.

b.      Discipleship Classes

Teaching the necessary skills for growth, Discipleship Classes give the student a grasp on their faith.  Spiritual disciplines, defending the faith, spiritual gifts discovery and development, and foundational doctrines will be the focus of these classes.

c.       Mission Trips

Mission Trips, whether work or ministry, provide opportunities for our students to serve God.  Both national and international missions’ trips allow our student to serve God in new ways, for new people, and experience new things.

d.      Conferences, Conventions, and Camps

Local, Regional and National Conferences, Conventions, and camps will be used for the training and development of our students.

4.      Discipled

The Discipled are committed to spiritual maturity and both helping and ministering to others.  They hold to a high standard of conduct, possess the desire to be used by God and have discovered and developed their spiritual gifts.

a.      Ministry Teams

Our students can be involved in various children, youth and church ministries.

b.      Leadership Team

Those on the leadership team will help their fellow student
become a disciple.  They will mentor, love, and assist
their fellow students wile being both an example and
              witness to them.

Policy and Procedures

Salvation

Salvation is a reason for excitement and celebration. (Heaven does)  Receiving salvation is the most important decision a student can make.  Therefore, we treat these occasions as significant and special.  Students who make the decision to follow Christ will be given training and encouragement to aid them in their new walk with Christ.  This will be done in the following ways:

1.      This Assimilation Team will contact the student to answer question, give guidance and help with situation that may arise because of their conversion.

2.      These students should be provided a packet with the following material.

a.       A Bible

b.      Student Pastor Business Card

c.       Salvation Flash Cards

3.      A Leadership Team member will be assigned the new believer to help them walk in their new decisions.

Family

Because building the family is one of our responsibilities, we desire to aide parents as they raise their children.   While respecting the rights and authority of the parent, we will resource and support them by providing Christian resources, support from parents who face similar situations, and help in difficult times.  We desire to build a relationship with the parents so we can better support their values and can glean from their wisdom and experiences.  We know involved parents are a great value to a teenage and want parent’s involvement in our ministry.  We desire and encourage parents to take an active role in the ministry.

2.      Receive and read Student Ministry Manual and return application to Student Pastor.

3.      Observe Program

4.      Interview with Student Pastor

5.      Participate in 30 day checkup meeting

Actions For Advancing Student Ministry

1.      Because relationships are the reason student ministries will grow, we must build positive ones. (Programs are a means to build relationships.)

a.       Relationship with God

b.      Relationship with Christians

c.       Relationship with Community

2.      We must act as a role model.

3.      We are not fake, but transparent.

4.      We express acceptance with actions, as well as words.

5.      We help with depressurizing by helping them find appropriate
     ways to release the pressure.

6.      We challenge them spiritually.

Discipline

Our events will draw student from all social, economic, religious, and ethic backgrounds, bring to us a wide range of attitudes and lifestyles.  Students will come who have been raped, molested, abused, abandoned, beaten and many other things, and these on top of struggles they already face.  We have the opportunity to show these students the love of Christ, but only the moving of the Holy Spirit can correct these hurts.  However because disruptive and rebellion hinders the Holy Spirit from moving, we must with love and compassion enforce our rules!  Experience tells us that most high-risk kids lack discipline in the home.  So as we minister to them we must live by the following saying, "If you love them every time you see them, when you do have to discipline them, they will listen."  If disciplinary action becomes necessary remember the following:

  1. Be careful and gentle.
  2. Saturate them with love.
  3. Often times the person and the discipline have to do with the individual.
  4. Discipline in private and not in public.
  5. Do not embarrass the student you are disciplining.

If a student does break the rules, they receive three strikes, and they are out.  If they continue to break the rules and fail to correct their behavior on the third strike, they have to leave the property.  The following steps are to be followed.

  1. Strike 1 - Remind them of the rule, the reason for it and the need to obey it.
  2. Strike 2 - Give them the final warning and the consequence of not complying.
  3. Strike 3 – They must leave the property.  If they drove watch them leave the property, if not call a parent or guardian to get them.

Having to eject students from the service is an unfortunate situation, and fortunately, it does not happen often. In many cases, if the matter is handled properly the first time, with love, it will not happen again.  “If you love them every time you see them, when you do have to discipline them, they will listen.”
